Value of share trading since 1979

From NOK 4 million a day to NOK 12 million a minute.

It has never been as easy to access the equity market as it is today. New technology has made buying and selling shares cheaper, and at the same time it has become much easier for private individuals and foreign investors to trade on Oslo Børs.

In 1979 the total value of shares traded each day totalled NOK 4.1 million. By 2018, the daily average had grown to NOK 5.36 billion a day, equivalent to NOK 11.9 million every minute.

In today's trading, the total value of shares traded on an average day in 1979 now changes hands about every 20 seconds.
